Yes and No. BORZY took hundreds (thousands?) of hours for us to create, using many creative sessions and iterations. We even measured my dogs nose and eyes with a ruler! After many months of work we landed on a BORZY that I had dreamed of creating. Each BORZY grow from one OG archetype. We used AI to iterate the collection based on this OG, one at a time for all 200 of them. Each Borzy have been altered by hand afterwards in to correct for things we wanted to change. This project shows how AI can be used as a tool, like Photoshop, while still relying on the hard work and creativity of real people.

BORZY was inspired by my actual dog Betty, who is a wonderful Borzoi. I grew tired of working in the corporate world and wanted to reconnect with my roots as an artist. The BORZY concept was born as an alternative to the cookie-cutter approach of many crypto art projects. Instead of characters that all look alike, and follow a hive-mind mentality, each BORZY is a one-of-a-kind creation with no repeated or 'rare' traits. The focus is on celebrating art and the story of the Borzoi—not turning it into a itemization-based financial game. In my minds eye I wanted to create something that captures a sense of nostalgia for the past while looking toward the future. The story of the Borzoi dog breed is a remarkable parable, and I wanted to blend this feeling with something contemporary and futuristic—using a digital collective, distributed on the blockchain, to bridge the past and the future.
